If you order a shipping container and it doesn’t arrive, doesn’t match the seller’s description, arrives damaged or doesn’t arrive at all, we've got you covered. Our Buyer Protection Policy is designed to give you peace of mind in knowing you'll receive the exact container you purchased. Before proceeding with a purchase, we strongly encourage you to read the Buyer's Guide, not only to brush-up on your knowledge of shipping containers, but to get a set-by-step explanation of the entire process, from initial request, to sending funds and accepting delivery. It's all there. Below are some of the most commonly asked questions regarding the Buyer Protection Policy.

No, every purchase is backed by our protection policy. Shipped.com, in cooperation with our sellers, are dedicated to ensuring your total satisfaction.

It's possible to cancel an order, but the amount of refund depends on the stage. You can cancel an order at any time before sending funds for no cost. If you've sent the funds but the seller hasn't processed your order yet, you will receive a refund of 100%, less banking fees. If the Seller has processed but not shipped your order, you will receive 95%, less banking fees. If the container has already been shipped and is on route, we can cancel the order, but you'll be subject to reimbursing the seller the exact cost of shipping and re-stocking fees, plus banking fees. Contact us and we will do everything we can to assist you.

In the rare case that you receive a container that is different than the one you purchased (i.e. you ordered a 40' container and a 20' container arrived), the seller will correct your order as our sellers are long-time professionals and an error of this type is rare. Simply tell the delivery driver that you will not be accepting delivery. You can phone the seller directly to arrange for your correct container to be re-delivered. Instead, if you wish to cancel your order and receive a refund, tell us, we'll make it right.

Once your container arrives at your location, you will have a chance to perform a complete inspection before you accept delivery. We suggest that you read our FAQ page on how to prepare and handle the delivery process. Remember, some grades of containers, such as "B" Grade "As Is" containers will have some rusting or exterior denting, this is normal for their age. If, however, your container is damaged in a way not disclosed to you during the purchase process, you have 3 options:

  • Contact the seller immediately. If he agrees to fix the damage (for example, a hinge that broke during delivery), then Accept Delivery of the container and wait for the repairs to take place, according to your arrangement with the seller.
  • If the container cannot be repaired to your satisfaction on site, then (if agreed upon by you and the seller) the container can be sent to a local repair facility where the repairs can be done. The finished container will then be shipped back to you and you will accept delivery.
  • Refuse delivery, and your purchase price will be refunded. You cannot refuse delivery simply because you change your mind.

No, once the container is delivered, you've performed your physical inspection and have accepted delivery, then it's now your container to do with what you wish. So, it's important you perform a thorough inspection on the container during delivery. For example, a week after delivery, you can't return it and ask for a refund because you decided you don't like the color. In addition, if the area you've prepped for delivery doesn't support the weight of the container, and it get's damaged because of this, you are not covered.

Selling shipping containers through the Shipped.com Marketplace is fast, safe and efficient. All buyer payments are received and held in escrow before you get notification to ship the container. You'll never have to worry about collecting payments from buyers. Once the buyer has accepted the delivery, funds are dispersed to you within 12 business hours (often instantly). If there is a problem during delivery, we will do everything we can to help you resolve the issue and make the transaction a success. Because of the unique way we do business, there is often less risk selling through us than there is when you sell direct! Below are some common questions, answers and tips. We have a unique system in place for payment verifications that first checks and then verifies that the buyer's payment has been received. Only after we've received and verified the buyer's funds will you receive notice that you should ship the order. At this point, we guarantee the buyer's funds are being held in escrow for your benefit. In short, you will always get paid in full regardless if we, or our financial institution, make a mistake.

Before bidding on a container listing, make sure you've read the Seller's Guide. It'll prepare you for the Shipped.com Marketplace and will help eliminate issues that might pop-up during the entire process.

That said, if the container arrives damaged, the buyer will contact you to work out a solution. For example, if the buyer notices a small hole that indicates the container is no longer watertight, you can agree to have the delivery driver fix it on the spot (using, for example, the application of a small amount of Epoxy). Or if the container is damaged to a degree that is greater than what can be repaired on the spot, then you and the buyer can agree to have a repairman come and perform the repairs, or you can send the container to a local repair facility. In either case, once you agree with the buyer on how you want to handle the damage, the buyer will Accept Delivery and you'll be paid.

If using third-party transport, save your copy of the bill of lading and take photos as the container is loaded onto the delivery vehicle. If a buyer is not accepting the delivery, it's best to contact us right away so that we can assist you in resolving the problem so you both end up with a successful transaction.

 New (One Trip) Containers

Nearly all new containers are manufactured in Asia and delivered by ship to ports worldwide. To defray shipping costs, they will have had cargo loaded in them for the one-trip over from Asia. Nevertheless, these are brand new, clean, dent and problem free, with the durable manufactures original paint and warranty. Shipped.com provides a 10 year warranty on all new containers we sell. One-trip containers are not only new, they are also certified to transport cargo on the high seas without an inspection for 5 years!  CWO (Certified/IICL/CSC Plated/Cargo Worthy) Containers

CWO containers are currently being used to transport cargo domestically or overseas. They are generally between 3-8 years of age and while there may be dents, scratches, repaired sections or cosmetic imperfections, structurally these containers are of a very high quality. A cargo worthy container can be certified by a licensed surveyor and used to continue transporting cargo. Inspection criteria is based on the condition of the doors, floor, walls, ceiling and the structural integrity. You can expect a 10% to 25% price premium vs a "WWT" container. Regardless if you plan to ship your container or not, a CWO container will guarantee that you will receive a unit that is structurally sound.

 "WWT" (Wind and Water Tight) Containers

Wind and Water Tight containers have been used to move cargo on the high seas. Most are retired after 8-12 years of service and are ready for a new owner. WWT containers are ideal for home/business storage, container homes and a multitude of other uses. You can lock yourself inside the container and not see any light coming in. There will be cosmetic imperfections, exterior rust, dents, dings, patch work and the roof bows may not be perfect. Nevertheless, the doors will properly open and close and the floor will worn but in good condition. These containers have a lot of inherent value and will likely retain 100% of their price when resold later. WWT boxes are a great choice when you want a guaranteed wind and water tight container at the lowest possible price!

 "Damaged" AS-IS Containers

AS-IS / Damaged units have major damage. These containers have missing sections of steel, advanced rust causing structural integrity problems, doors that don't fully open or close, rotten floors or other serious problems. They are typically sold for recycling the steel or specific projects. Shipped.com does NOT offer damaged containers for sale.
